For my first blog post, I want to explain the importance of the three themes of the Wellness & Wallet blog and how they are all interconnected and because this is what the blog is about. When one health pillar is off, the other two will be impacted so nurturing your body, soul, and wallet are all key to a healthy and happy life.
Body
Why it is Important
I would say that almost all people understand why a healthy body is important. In some cases it is literally life or death. The issue isn’t people knowing why physical health is important, the issue is the lack of and conflicting information. If everyone understood how to achieve optimal physical health, then this wouldn’t be a main component of this blog.
How it Relates to the Other Pillars
Your body is tied to your mental and financial health as well. If you are putting unhealthy things in your body, it can lead to an unhealthy mind and soul but healthy food can do the opposite. When it comes to finances, medical bills rack up frequently when your body isn’t in a healthy state. It isn’t mass consumerism that is bankrupting people. Medical bills are the #1 reason for bankruptcy. Sometimes illnesses and injuries are from plain old bad luck. However, it is a hell of a lot easier for a healthy person to recover. Wellness & Wallet will provide you with tips on healthy eating, advice on how to stay active when life gets hectic, and other fun health topics that impact your body.
Soul & Mind
Why it is Important
I prefer to refer to the soul over the mind but they are both deeply intertwined so having both your soul and mind in a good place is equally important. Most people view them as one in the same but they are different. The soul is who you truly are on the inside. You are not a 35 year old wife and mother who works in Advertising. These are just descriptions that happen to be true at this moment of time. The mind is what came up with this logical description of who it thinks you are. The soul, on the other hand, is who is listening to the mind. Do you ever notice that your mind sometimes goes off on tangents or ponders about all the things that could go wrong with a situation? Well, it is the soul who notices that the mind is getting off track. The soul is also who the mind tries to talk to in your head.
They both impact your happiness. If you have a stressed out mind, your soul is barraged with unnecessary worry. That worrying impacts your body over time. If you aren’t taking care of your soul through self-enrichment such as spending time with friends or experiencing new things, then your mind will likely focus on its unhappiness.
How it Relates to the Other Pillars
Enriching your soul and mind are crucial for your overall well-being. When your mind and soul are stressed, your body gets stressed. When your body becomes stressed, health issues appear such as heart disease and gastrointestinal issues. If health issues appear, as I had mentioned before, the medical bills appear. Wellness & Wallet will provide advice on how to avoid these issues and show all the different ways you can offer your soul and mind with more happiness.
Wallet (Personal Finances)
Why it is Important
One of my favorite quotes, which happens to apply really well to personal finance is, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your life plans.” Having a safety net gives you freedom to handle the curve-balls that life throws at you.
You don’t need to worry about an emergency dental repair that won’t be covered with insurance. When 6 weddings pop up in the same year, you can be there for your friends and loved ones. There is freedom to consider taking that lower paying job that you would enjoy more. You have the option to move to the lower cost city. Being in a comfortable financial situation allows you to give more back to your community and to be able to take care of loved ones in need. Just realizing the importance of being financially stable is the first step in the right direction.
How it Relates to the Other Pillars
If your personal finances are out of wack, it is a slippery slope to an unwell body, soul and mind. Although it would be great to say that money doesn’t matter, there is a reason why it is the leading cause of stress in relationships. As I mentioned before, stress can lead to a whole slew of physical problems so having healthy personal finances can take one major source of stress out of your life.
Although this post talks about what can go wrong if you don’t focus on your body, soul, and wallet. The great news is that the majority of this is in your control. If you are intrigued about how to use these pillars of health to achieve the most out of life, I hope you stop by for future posts.
